MEXICO CITY, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Mexico will sharpen preparations for next year's FIFA World Cup with friendlies against Panama, Bolivia and Iceland, the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) said on Tuesday.
El Tri, which will co-host football's showpiece tournament with the United States and Canada, will travel to Panama City for a clash against Panama on January 22 before another away fixture against Bolivia in Santa Cruz three days later. Javier Aguirre's side will then host Iceland in Queretaro on February 25.
"These matches will allow the coaching staff to closely evaluate Liga MX players and fine-tune the final details ahead of the top international competition," read an FMF statement.
It added that Mexico's squad would only feature players from Liga MX clubs, given the matches fall outside FIFA's official dates for international friendlies.
Mexico will face South Africa in the World Cup curtain raiser at Azteca Stadium on June 11 before meeting South Korea and a yet-to-be-determined European qualifier later in the group stage. ■
