JERUSALEM, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- A total of 14.7 million Jews live in the world today, 45 percent of which live in Israel, according to a report published by Israeli Hebrew University on Saturday.

According to the data, about 5.7 million Jews live in the United States, 453,000 in France, 391,000 in Canada and 290,000 in the Great Britain.

The African country with largest Jewish population is South Africa (69,000).

Some 27,000 Jews live in Arab and Muslim countries, of which 15,000 are in Turkey, 8,500 in Iran, 2,000 in Morocco and about 1,000 in Tunisia.
